To form a union on the job, you need the backup and hands-on help from the union you are seeking to join. If you don’t already know which union is most able to help you, find out more about the unions affiliated with the AFL-CIO.

Step 3

Contact a union organizer

Get in touch with a union organizer for help building your union. Together, you can bring union opportunities for dignity and respect, good wages, and decent working conditions to your workplace.

Recruit your co-workers

Talk to your co-workers about the union's advantages and recruit them to help build your union at your workplace.

As an employee, you can form a union in the workplace, join a union, and assist in organizing fellow employees in the union. All employees have the right to be fairly represented by a union.
